Frequently Asked Questions
Is BJU accredited?

Bob Jones University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, baccalaureate, masters, and doctorate degrees. Bob Jones University also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels.

Will my credits transfer—and who makes the final decision?

Many students are able to transfer credits to BJU! Each course is carefully reviewed and compared to BJU classes. The Registrar’s Office makes the final decision, often working with faculty as needed.

How many transfer credits can I bring into an online bachelor’s degree?

There’s no set limit on the number of credits you can submit for evaluation. However, up to 90 credit hours can be applied toward your degree. Students must complete at least 30 credit hours through BJU, with 120 total credits required for a bachelor’s degree.

What grades are required for a course to transfer?

Undergraduate courses require a grade of C- or higher to transfer (no D, F, or P). Graduate courses require a grade of B or higher.

Do online courses from another school transfer the same as on-campus courses?

Yes! Transfer decisions are based on accreditation, academic level, and course comparability—not delivery format.

Is there a residency requirement?

Students in Bachelor’s degree programs must complete at least 30 semester credit hours at BJU. Students in Associate degree programs must complete at least 15 semester credit hours at BJU.

How do I know before I apply what will transfer?

Students can use the *course equivalency tool and may submit unofficial transcripts for a transfer credit evaluation. Final decisions are made after admission and receipt of official transcripts.

*For Dual Enrollment students, the course equivalency tool provides a general guideline.

What documents do I need to submit for a transfer credit evaluation?

Students may submit unofficial college transcripts for a transfer credit evaluation. Official transcripts will be required for a final evaluation. International students must submit a credential evaluation report through WES.

How will my transfer credits apply—general education, major requirements, or electives?

Transfer credit may apply toward major requirements, core/general education, or electives depending on how the course aligns with program requirements. Courses without a direct equivalent may still transfer as general elective credit.

What if I disagree with my transfer credit evaluation—can I appeal?

Yes. Students may submit a written appeal to the Registrar's Office.

Can I earn credit for life experience (prior learning) such as credit by examination, work, or military experience?

SCOPE offers credit for prior learning through an assessment for adults enrolled in one of our degree completion programs. For more details, visit our Credit for Prior Learning page.

Can I transfer graduate-level credit? If so, what are the grade and credit hour limits?

BJU considers graduate transfer credits from other institutions. To be eligible, courses must have a grade of B or higher and align with your program of study.

Transfer credit limits include up to 6 semester credits for most master’s programs.

All transfer courses are reviewed individually to ensure they meet graduate-level standards and fit within your degree requirements.

Will you accept college credit earned as a Dual Enrollment student?

Yes! BJU SCOPE accepts college credit earned as a Dual Enrollment student. An official trancript from the college with the credit earned will be required.
