In addition to the long-standing demands to increase productivity and reduce costs, the complexity of hybrid teams and a more diverse workforce have placed more pressure on leaders and their teams than ever before. Conflict, a natural byproduct of these conditions, can lead to poor relationships, lack of trust, and decreased collaboration. However, when differences are viewed in a healthy way, they can lead to stronger relationships, new insights, and creative solutions. Leaders can create an inclusive environment by utilizing the differences that make each employee unique and helping employees accept accountability for owning and resolving their workplace conflicts. They learn to do this by asking Powerful Questions and using two intervention techniques – coach and mediate – if the conflict remains unresolved.
