Introduction to the various functions of the Human Resources field. Topics include needs assessment, policies and procedures, benefits, legal issues, consulting, training, safety and performance appraisals. Summer only, three hours.

A study of principles/practices for accurately reading, interpreting, and applying the Bible. The focus will be on understanding and embracing God's authorial intent of the ancient text and making appropriate applications for contemporary living. Three hours.

A survey of guidance services and their application in both elementary and secondary educational settings. Practical guidance problems are considered. Second semester, three hours.

This course is a practical examination of current technology applications and their integration in education. The hands-on learning environment provides the professional educator with the tools needed to enhance skills in technology and apply these skills in a variety of settings. Second semester, three hours.

This course introduces educational research, statistics, and testing; and is designed to familiarize the student with the terminology, basic concepts and tools necessary to critique and interpret published research. Both semesters, three hours.

This course is designed to teach students the role of physical activity in maintaining optimal health and improved quality of life. Topics such as safe exercise, nutrition, weight management, and lifestyle chronic diseases will be explored. Throughout this course, students will assess individual fitness levels including body composition, cardiovascular fitness, and musculoskeletal fitness. Three hours.

This course involves the study of human psychological behavior and its influence in sport and exercise settings. It is designed to provide a student with information gleaned from research in sport psychology as well as practical knowledge to become a more effective sport manager, exercise science professional, coach or fitness instructor. Three hours.

Examines the psychological principles associated with coaching. Psychological theories and concepts are discussed in the context of sport coaching. Three hours.

This course examines the aesthetic and moral nature of the arts and their relevance to everyday life. It emphasizes the process of employing a biblical framework when evaluating and interacting with the arts in contemporary culture while affirming the objective nature of beauty, truth, reality and goodness. Through lectures, readings, and breakout sessions, students will gain a historical perspective of and basic working terminological knowledge in Art, Music, Theatre, and Film. Attendance at music recitals, art exhibitions, and theatrical performances will provide students with opportunities to apply and synthesize course material and articulate their worldview. Both semesters and summer, three hours.

An in-depth analysis of financial statements and application of principles of finance to actual business situations. Designed to develop decision-making abilities by having students recommend solutions to financial problems. Students will design and use computerized spreadsheet applications to assist in analysis. Three hours.

The course focuses on the process of historical thinking from a biblical perspective by investigating the forces and factors that have shaped the world we live in today, and by studying themes including empire building, revolutions, religious movements, philosophical and artistic accomplishments, social and economic networks. Both semesters and summer, three hours.

Overviews the history of the Christian faith since the New Testament era. Notes the formative influence of the early church councils and places special emphasis on the nature and contributions of the Reformation. Discusses modern Christian history with application to contemporary theological issues. Three hours.

Study of the healthcare system and policy development in the United States. The changing roles of health professionals, hospitals, and government agencies. Students will evaluate the healthcare system based on patient experience, population health, care team well-being, and costs. Topics include policy development, quality improvement, regulatory agencies, access to care, and patient safety. Three hours.

Addresses both communicable and non-communicable diseases of public health relevance. Analyzes risk factors, progression of disease, and distribution over time, as well as the repercussions on societal health measures. Describes options and strategies to reduce incidence and prevalence and to limit the deleterious effects on life expectancy and quality of life within communities. Three hours.

Integrates the sum of knowledge, skills, and aptitudes acquired throughout the curriculum in a project of interest at home or abroad. Designed in collaboration with a public health professional as mentor who supervises the work. Student defends the thesis before a jury. Six hours.

An introduction to the history of American school music education from the European antecedents through the present. Emphasis will be placed on the underlying philosophies of music and the historical justifications for music teaching. First semester, even-numbered years, three hours.

A course that aims at helping women become effective teachers of God's Word to other women. This class focuses on biblical mandates and principles of discipleship, communication skills, and the organization, development and presentation of Bible studies and lessons. Three hours.

This course focuses on approaches to understanding and resolving conflict in interpersonal and organizational contexts. Students learn negotiation skills, mediation techniques, and strategies for giving and receiving feedback from a biblical perspective. Three hours.

History of the professing Christian Church from the apostolic age through medieval times. Three hours.

A historical survey of the relationship of secular, integrationist, and biblical counseling models to the church. Examines the counseling theories of prominent Christian counselors and counseling organizations from a biblical counseling viewpoint. Guides students towards the development of a distinctly biblical counseling model. Three hours.

Builds on the foundation of SCM 632. Focuses on the dynamics of the heart as it pertains to biblically counseling those struggling with common counseling issues including anger, anxiety, depression and guilt. Three hours.

An exposition of the content of the Apocalypse. Reading in the best, standard commentaries. Preparation of expository sermons from each section of the book. Three hours.

Orientation of the student to the content and theological message of each book of the Old Testament. The focus is on the macroscopic perspective and the relevance of the Old Testament to the present. Includes discussion of key issues in scholarly debate and liberal-critical attacks. Emphasizes personal Bible study methods. Two hours.

A deeper look at the economic decision-making of individuals, firms and governments in a world of scarce resources. Topics include markets, public goods, utility maximization, costs of production, market structures, antitrust policy, labor unions, poverty, health care, gross domestic product, economic growth, business cycles, unemployment, inflation, monetary and fiscal policy, the global economy and comparative advantage. Three hours.

An introductory course designed to help the student develop key computational skills for professional life. Topics include tools for basic management of digital files, internet research and online safety, exposure to intermediate skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software, and foundational data related skills (including evaluation of the quality of data, development of data summaries, and communication of data for effective decision-making). Lecture and lab. Excludes: Tec 201. Three hours.

An introductory course designed to help the student develop key computational skills for professional life. Topics include tools for basic management of digital files, internet research, exposure to digital content authoring with markdown, foundational data evaluation and visualization, and basic programming skills. Lecture and lab. Excludes: Tec 101. Three hours.
