Ed 205: Foundations of Reading
This course examines the theoretical and evidence-based foundations of literacy processes and instruction, including oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. It also includes the historical progression of reading and writing instruction, and the role of professional learning, leadership and judgment for teachers. This course is aligned with SC literacy competencies, ILA, CAEP, InTASC and ADEPT performance standards. This course meets the requirements of the Read to Succeed Act for the R2S Literacy Teacher Endorsement in South Carolina for early childhood, elementary, and special education teachers AND the R2S Literacy Requirement Endorsement in SC for middle and high school teachers.
